Aim:
To study expansion of gases.
To know the effect of heating on gases.
Material used: Test-tube, spirit lamp, test tube holder, balloon, match stick.
Method:
Take an empty test tube. Show students that nothing inside the test tube except gas.
Now put balloon on test tube so that it covers the mouth of test tube.
Now with match stick blow the spirit lamp. With help of test tube holder hold test tube on spirit lamp and heat it slowly.
You will see balloon will start expanding.
Conclusion: When we heat the gases the intermolecular distance between the molecules of a gas start increasing that’s why gases expand while heating.
Precaution: -
Be careful while working with spirit lamp.
Concept used in Daily life:
Balloons and tires burst if you blow them up too much.
Deodorant spray cans carry warning signs to tell you not to leave them in the sunshine. If they get too hot they explode.
